August 2, 2024 Press Release

Springfield, Oh. – History comes to life at the Dawn Patrol Rendezvous World War I Fly-In on September 13-15, 2024 at the Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport in Springfield, Ohio.

During this family-friendly event, visitors can watch as WWI-replica aircraft fly into the airport.  Aircraft will be on display, where visitors can get “up close” and speak with pilots about their passion for building and flying these experimental aircraft.

The Dawn Patrol Rendezvous also includes living history encampments with realistic impressions of what life was like during this era.   Step into these camps to observe dress, activities and tools used during the Great War.   Witness live demonstrations throughout the event.

They may not have pilots in the cockpit, but these radio-controlled model airplanes will have you taking a second glance.  Built from scratch or kits, they resemble both Allied and Central Powers flying machines of the Great War.  Walk through their displays and learn more from these experienced RC operators.

Listen to rumbling engines of vintage automobiles as they drive around the venue.  Wave to hear their horns honk, and talk with their owners to learn more about these early vehicles.

For added outdoor fun, the event’s “Kids Zone” features simulator games and the American Modelers Association (AMA) simulator trailer.  Smaller children can enjoy riding in hand-built pedal planes.

Learn more about the history of the Great War through educational presentations and displays throughout the event.  Displays include the Great War Aeroplanes Association, League of WWI Aviation Historians, WWI Flying Ace Raoul Lufbery biographers Bill Jackson and Mary Pacinda, and representatives of St. Teresa of Avila Church.

Presentations feature historian and author Robert Laplander; USAF Major (Ret) and President of the local chapter of the League of WWI Aviation Historians Robert Kasprzak; historian, researcher and firearms collector Josef Otmar; and living history reenactor Jeremy Bowles.   There is no cost to attend and registration is not required.  For a complete description of presentations and times, visit the Dawn Patrol Rendezvous website at https://www.dawnpatrolww1.com.

Shop with our event vendors for WWI-related merchandise, including radio-control model kits, aviation prints, event posters, books and clothing.  Food vendor trucks will also be available at the airport.

The Dawn Patrol Rendezvous is open Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from 9 am to 2 pm.   This event is free and open to the public.   During this event, the airport is open to all normal aviation business.
